Earlier this month at the Rotary Club of Braids I gave a presentation on the Houses of Parliament, both its history and the current day-to-day workings of our legislature.• I don’t rate myself as much of an historian but I received some positive feedback.

I also met with students who are about to head off to Georgia through a scholarship provided by the Rotary Clubs in Georgia in the US.• Rotary Clubs across Scotland sponsor and promote the applications made Scottish students.

The scholarship was established after the Second World War and provided one scholarship per district.• The local Braids Club have worked very hard over recent years and managed to secure two places for local young people in Edinburgh on the scholarship over the past two years.

•

Participants have usually just completed High School and use the opportunity as a gap year before they go on to further or higher education.• They attend a local university and study a course, and do various activities and attend events with their host Rotarian family.
