Ed Miliband is offering what I believe is a refreshing new kind of leadership to solve our country’s problems based on having big ideas for the future, sticking to principles, caring about people’s lives and not leaving decency behind at the door to Number 10.

‘If you want the politician from central casting, it’s just not me, it’s the other guy. If you want a politician who thinks that a good photo is the most important thing, then don’t vote for me.

But I believe that people would quite like somebody to stand up and say there is more to politics than the photo op. The current Prime Minister might take a good picture but he can’t build a country that works for you. It is not what interests him. And it is not who he stands up for.’

We all know that David Cameron is better at photo-op politics, but this culture is why people are turning away from all political parties; they think politicians care only about themselves and their image. We instead need leadership that has big ideas to change things, with the sense of principle needed to stick to those beliefs and ideas even when it is hard, and with the decency and empathy to reach out to people from all backgrounds, all walks of life.

We need a public question time, where the Prime Minister regularly submits himself or herself to questioning from the public.

With nine months to go until the general election, our country is at a crossroads. The Tories and Lib Dems claim they’ve fixed the economy but things are tough for hardworking families.

More than any other election in recent times the choice that is made in May 2015 matters. After four years of Tory failure, the coming election is a choice between:

The Tory threat:•another five years of David Cameron failing to deliver for working people and standing up for a privileged few.

•

The Labour future:•a positive vision for the future where we build a Britain which works for working people once again. This can be achieved by, amongst other initiatives:

• Cut income tax for hardworking people with a lower 10p starting rate, and introduce a 50p top rate of tax as we pay off the deficit in a fair way.

•

• Freeze gas and electricity bills until 2017 and reform the broken energy market.

•

• A guaranteed appointment with a GP within 48 hours and the same day for those who need it.

•

• Get 200,000 homes built a year by 2020, and stop families that rent being ripped off with new long term tenancies.

•

• Back the next generation with a job guarantee for the young unemployed and more apprenticeships.

•
