This week I visited DEBRA’s charity shop in Stockbridge to find out more about the charity’s work and how they play a vital role in supporting those who suffer from the skin condition Epidermolysis bullosa (EB).

DEBRA visitEB is a genetic skin blistering condition which an estimated 5000 people suffer from in the UK.• It causes fragile skin which blisters and shears at the slightest of contact, making victims’ lives painfully tough.• Potentially fatal in infancy, EB can cause lifelong disability and pain even in its least severe form.• At present, there is no known cure for the disease.

It is amazing that we have such generous people in our community who give up their time to help those suffering from EB.• From the money•they generate, DEBRA are able to provide specialist care to those in need and support to the families affected.•This•gives hope that one day a cure•can be found.

It would be great if constituents could pay one of their stores for a visit (there is another branch at the foot of Marchmont Crescent) or pop onto their website -;https://www.debra.org.uk/index.html•-; to find out more about their work.• You can also make a donation via their website which will go towards helping those in South Edinburgh who are affected by this condition.

Thanks to all the staff at the store who took time out to show me what they do and telling me about EB.
