Two fantastic opportunities for aspiring journalists in Edinburgh South•

The News Academy is an organisation which aims to invest in the future of journalism, to inspire a new generation into journalism. The News Academy has two opportunities that would be of interest to aspiring young journalists in Edinburgh South.•

The first of these opportunities is The News Academy Summer School. This is a free week-long journalism training course for students aged from 16 to 18 from across the UK and Ireland. The programme takes place in London, at the London headquarters of The Times, Sunday Times and The Sun, where 15 students will get the opportunity to write, edit and publish their own newspaper with the help of leading journalists. Accommodation, travel and food in London is included for the duration of the Summer School.•

To apply, applicants need to write up to 500 words on something you feel passionate about.•

Applications close at midnight on 19th July 2015.•

The second opportunity is a competition, run by the News Academy and The Sun newspaper, seeking out the next top young columnist. The competition is open to 18 to 24 year olds, and will see five of the finalists winning a column in The Sun and also gaining a place in the News Academy Summer School. The overall winner of the competition will also have a full-page column appear in The Sun.•

To apply, entrants need to write why they deserve to win and submit 200 words on something they feel passionate about.
