It was a great pleasure to do an “in conversation” evening with Eleanor Updale & Fairmilehead Parish Church to support two wonderful charities – Mary’s Meals and St Catherine’s Homeless Hostel.

We discussed my life both in and out of politics as well as some of the most pressing political issues of the day. •I may even have made the odd confession!!!

Mary’s Meals enables people to provide the most effective help to those suffering the effects of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest communities. One of the most important things Mary’s Meals does is attract hungry children into the classroom by providing nutritious meals. The food fills their empty bellies so they have the energy and opportunity to learn, giving them the chance of a brighter future. The meals also support families struggling to feed their children while boosting the country’s wider economy.

Equally important is St Catherine’s Hostel which offers friendship and practical support to homeless and disadvantaged people here in Edinburgh. They provide morning and evening meals, toilet and shower facilities, and perhaps, more importantly, a warm welcome, a listening ear and a place to call ‘Home’.

All in all, a great night for two very worthy causes
