I was delighted to be invited along to Reid Memorial Church in Blackford to discuss, yes you guessed it, Brexit.•

I gave a short speech outlining where we are in terms of the process and the Government’s negotiating position. It has now been 4 months since the momentous vote to leave the European Union and we are still no clearer as to the general terms of departure the Government will seek.

I took a number of questions from the attendees ranging from the role of the EU in protecting peace to the future of the environment post Brexit.• It was a good discussion.

Here in Edinburgh, the Single Market underpins the regulatory environment of the financial services sector, and free movement of people is integral to our higher education system, in terms of both staffing and students. I assured people how hard I would be working to ensure these benefits will be maintained.•
