An estimated one in six people living with HIV in Scotland are unaware of their status and are therefore not accessing HIV treatment.• That is why I am supporting HIV Testing Week Scotland.

Not knowing their status or being on treatment also means that a person may unwittingly be passing on the virus to others. HIV Testing Week saw a series of additional services, testing events and public messages aimed at encouraging more people to get tested for HIV, and to make regular testing part of their routine.•

More widely, the UN estimates that 36.7 million people globally were living with HIV at the end of 2015, many of whom are unable to receive basic life-saving treatment. That is why it is so important that the Government ensures that the UK continues to lead international efforts to tackle the global spread of HIV.
