Ian Murray MP Working Hard for Edinburgh South
We have all been moved by the plight of refugees in Calais and across Europe fleeing war and oppression. These people are willing to give up everything and travel across Europe with nothing but the clothes on their backs. We should be fulfilling our obligations under the Dublin agreement and the Dubs amendment to take as many as we can.
I recently spoke at an event organised by Students Abroad Representatives (STAR) at the University of Edinburgh, in conjunction with the Scottish Refugee Council. The talk covered a whole host of areas including: the current plight of the refugees, what is being done via parliament, how can residents get involved and how does the ‘Dubs’ amendment operate.•
Graham O’Neil, CEO of the Scottish Refugee Council spoke about how he and his colleagues deal with refugees, what are the obstacles and how people and students can help.
I have been writing to constituents over the course of the year with updates on the Calais refugee camp and refugees across Europe and the Middle East. To be added to the mailing list just email a blank email with ‘refugee subscribe’ in the subject box.•
