Greenend Gardens (17/02274/PPP) – This application was refused by the Development Management Sub Committee on 02/08/17. This is fantastic news for local residents who have been steadfast in their opposition to the plans. The application would have resulted in the loss of well used and cherished green space which, I and the residents felt was unacceptable and in contravention of planning guidelines.

Copy of refusal notice:

“The proposal does not comply with the local plan and is not acceptable. It is contrary to policy Env 18 in respect of loss of open space, and it is contrary to policy Env 12 in respect of loss of trees. As the proposal is not compatible with these policies, it is not compatible with policy Hou1. There are no material considerations upon which to justify granting planning permission in principle.”

Canaan Lane (17/00184/FUL) – Again, this application was refused by the Development Management Sub Committee on 02/08/17. I objected to this application along with many local residents on the ground that 6-stories was simply too high and the lack of parking provision on an already congested street was a recipe for disaster. There were also concerns about the materials used.

Thankfully, after a request was made by my colleague Councillor Mandy Watt, the Committee granted a hearing to this application and then voted to reject. You can watch the debate here.

Securing a hearing on this application was particularly important because Council officials had recommended the granting of this application.

Residents should be aware there is a strong possibility the developer will return with a further application in the future.

Duncan Street (16/05503/FUL) – Again, this application was refused by the Development Management Sub Committee on 02/08/17. This is the 3rd time an application for this site has been refused in the last year.

Copy of refusal notice:

“The proposal is contrary to the Local Development Plan Policy Env 4 in respect of alterations and extensions to listed buildings. The proposed external alterations would diminish the special interest of the listed building, and result in an unacceptable loss of historic fabric to the detriment of its historic value.”













Information from Edinburgh Airport on recent consultation:

In January we launched the second consultation of our Airspace Change Programme. We used feedback received during the initial consultation to help determine our preferred route options and encouraged people to engage with us and respond to our presented route options.

During the second consultation we received a total of 3,963 responses; 18 from elected members, 61 from organisations and 3,884 from members of the public.

You can read a copy of our Second Consultation Finding Report on our website http://www.edinburghairport.com/pages/airspace-change-programme. This report does not put forward our response to the consultation. Rather, it describes what we did and what people told us.

The responses and information gathered will help us determine our final proposal on the route options before submitting them to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) later in the summer. We will be producing an executive summary of our submission to share with stakeholders and those with an interest in the project.

Charities and community groups are being encouraged to apply for their share of a massive £3million funding pot. Launching on July 14th People’s Postcode Lottery’s Dream Fund is looking for charities to apply for funding to bring their dream project to life.

The Dream Fund encourages collaboration between charities and good causes, bringing them together to apply for funding to finance their dream project – an idea they have always wanted to deliver but never had the opportunity to develop.

Applications for the Dream Fund are open from Friday, 14 July until Tuesday, 22 August. Winners will be announced in January, 2018. Please visit www.postcodedreamtrust.org.uk to apply today.
