The Government are now negotiating with the EU on the post-Brexit relationship. These negotiations are of paramount importance and I believe the public should have their say.

That is why I am supporting the People’s Vote campaign which is calling for a referendum on the deal.

The public have been locked out of the Brexit process since the referendum in 2016. The Conservative Government have, thus far, refused to take a consensual approach and have instead interpreted the Brexit vote in the most extreme way possible. The terms on which we leave, and Britain’s future relationship with the EU, were never formulated or put to the public in the referendum and much more information and hard facts about this exist now than was available then. As the detail of the deal becomes clear, it would be anti-democratic to give the public no further say in decisions that will dictate the country’s future for decades to come.

I was also on Chopper’s Brexit podcast last month discussing a democratic approach to the final deal.

Many constituents have also contacted me regarding the allegations that Vote Leave broke spending rules by funnelling money into BeLeave (another Eurosceptic campaign group) and then directing the ways in which BeLeave used that money. These allegations are extremely concerning. I believe the Electoral Commission should be investigating these allegations in conjunction with the Police.
