Ian Murray MP Working Hard for Edinburgh South
![]() |
Welcome to my latest e-Magazine. This newsletter has important updates on Morningside Post Office, Comiston Farmhouse and a special birthday message to the Friends of Burdiehouse Burn Valley Park. There is also news from parliament on the small number of non-Brexit related bills going through the House of Commons as well as my usual contributions in the Chamber. Lastly, as we are remembering the brave men and women who lost their lives in war, the House of Commons has written a fantastic blog on my predecessor as Member of Parliament for Edinburgh South – Charles Henry Lyell – who was the last Member of Parliament to die on active service during WWI. Please feel free to share with friends and family and encourage them to subscribe Email: ian.murray.mp@ Telephone: 0131 662 4520 Facebook: Ian Murray for Edinburgh South Twitter: IanMurrayMP Website: ianmurraymp.com |

PlanningDrum Street Many concerned residents from the Candlemaker’s estate have contacted me who are worried about the development at the adjacent Drum Street site. Many residents have been offered dilapidation surveys ahead of the works which has caused some concern. More information on the developer’s plans to deal with the land instability can be found on the Council’s planning portal using the reference: 17/00696/AMC Information on construction noise can be found here: http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/ Royal Ettrick Alterations and adjustments to the already approved planning application were granted by the Planning Committee. |

#Play4Peace Concert for CooperationAcross Europe, there will be many commemoration events taking place to mark 100 years since the end of World War One. I want to highlight one special event which will bring together people from all countries to show that creativity, cooperation and peace will conquer conflict.
A special #iPlay4Peace Concert will be held on Sunday 11 November at Edinburgh Napier University’s Craiglockhart campus in Scotland, the site of a former military hospital for shell-shocked officers during World War One. But it is not just for those who can visit Edinburgh, as the concert will be streamed live. It will culminate with a performance of a specially commissioned piece, written by Thoren Ferguson and titled ‘Armistice’, which will be performed in unison with #iPlay4Peace musicians from across the world using modern technology and social media platforms at 3pm (GMT) and 4pm (CET).
Musicians of all ages and abilities are welcome to join the global orchestra on 11 November using social media platforms and the hashtags #iPlay4Peace, #ArmisticeConcert and #Concert4Cooperation. If you know any musical groups, if you are a musician yourself, or if you would just like to listen to the music, please spread the word.
You can find out more details, and download the score, at this website |

Brain Tumour Action wins AwardBrain Tumour Action, the oldest Brain Tumour Charity in the UK, celebrated its 25th birthday in May this year. Last month it was Highly Commended by the British Medical Association for its booklet, Brain Tumours and Epilepsy which Was produced in collaboration with members of SANON, the Scottish Association for Neuro-Oncology Network. An awards ceremony was held in London, on the 25 September.
Reviewers had been asked to grade all entries from Exceptional to Poor and Brain Tumour Action received Excellent, the second highest rating. They said that Brain Tumours and Epilepsy was pitched at exactly the right level to tell patients and relatives what they need to know at the point of diagnosis and that “the Booklet is spot on for the layperson”. |
