I met up with Guides from Edinburgh Unit 198a to speak to them about my role as a Member of Parliament.

The Guides were taking part in the new Parliament Week initiative which is designed to engage young people, through schools and youth organisations like the guides, in Parliament and our democracy.

I think it is so important that young people feel democracy and Parliament is relevant and something which affects their lives. We need to make Parliament as open and accessible as possible for the next generation. Too often Parliament’s arcane traditions make it feel remote and inaccessible. That is why I welcome the reforms and initiatives like this one, which have been carried out by Speaker Bercow.
