Liberton HS

The Scottish Government committed to a new co-campus Liberton High School before the recent Scottish Parliament Elections. The plan was to co-locate this with a Gaelic-medium education (GME) secondary school (currently at James Gillespie’s).

However, during the election campaign the SNP promised a new GME school in ‘central Edinburgh’. The election of an SNP minority government has thrown the Liberton plans into doubt as council officials have failed to secure confirmation that the new Liberton High can go ahead independently of GME.

You can read more in the Edinburgh Evening News here.

I have written to the then Education Minister, John Swinney, to seek reassurances. You can read my letter below.

The pupils, staff and parents at Liberton High who have been campaigning on this issue for so long deserve clarity. A new Liberton High School is required and must be delivered independently of GME provision.
