I had the pleasure of visiting the local Cranley Nursery and Pre-School, on Braid Road. Cranley is a brilliant facility and I am always thankful whenever I am able to catch up with Mark, Anna and their wonderful staff.
It was amazing to have a tour round their new, expanded facilities, and see all the great work Cranley have done to ensure this is the best place for kids to thrive.
It was interesting and informative to hear from Anna and Mark about the current issues in the early age education system and particularly the ongoing problems with staff vacancies and retention. This issue is not unique to the childcare sector but a huge problem nevertheless.
I was also glad to have the chance to hear from their manager, Shelley, about their apprenticeship programme.
Covid and the wider economic headwinds have caused some major issues for early years learning, so I’m glad I was able to hear about these issues first hand on this visit.
