Ian Murray MP Working Hard for Edinburgh South
From Brexit to Covid and now the cost-of-living crisis, this has been a uniquely difficult time for British businesses. This summer I have been actively engaging with businesses right across Edinburgh South to discuss the cost of doing business.
Just recently I had a really constructive and informative meeting with Anne Ness of the Morningside Traders Association about the huge challenges faced by small high-street businesses post Covid, with supplies and staff, the rocketing costs of business and more local issues including traffic, footfall, access and parking.
In Moredun I met with Asif Mohammad who owns Fazal and Sons convenience store in Moredun. Asif was recently issued with bill from his energy supplier stating the annual cost of his bill would be going up from £12,500 per year to £70,000.
Whilst recent Government announcements now mean that businesses will get some support, there will still be a huge additional cost facing many businesses when their current fixed tariff comes to an end. You can read more about Asif’s store here.
