It was a pleasure and a privilege to present the Association of Hackney Carriage Drivers for the City of Edinburgh with a Community Hero Award last week, after they were nominated by members of the public.
They have made a real difference in the local community and beyond. Here’s just a few things they’ve been involved with:
- The Poppycabs initiative to support and raise money for veterans,
- Providing free transport for a group of young carers to and from an overnight retreat for some much-needed respite,
- Donating ride-on minicabs to local community centres and youth groups (as seen in the picture), and
- Driving a decommissioned taxi to Ukraine for use as a patient transport on the frontline.
A huge THANK YOU to all those at the Association involved in these initiatives, including Jacci Miller, Jonny Bates, Stevie Webster, Linda McHale and of course the indefatigable Bob McCulloch, for all their efforts and the enormous contribution they make to communities here in Edinburgh and beyond.
