The Gillis Centre on Strathearn Road is going to be put up for sale.
The historic site is currently the headquarters of the Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh. Its origins can be traced back to the 15th century. I know this decision will be painful for many people across south Edinburgh and beyond of all faiths and none.
Commenting on the decision, the Archdiocese said that continuing to invest in the upkeep of the site would not be the most effective use of their resources.
Many residents understandably have questions and concerns about what may happen to the site in future and how it might be used. At this stage, there is no more information about this as it has not yet been placed on the market.
I have written to the Archdiocese on behalf of local residents asking for more information about the sale process, including when they plan to put it on the market.
I will make sure to keep residents informed on here. If you would like to receive updates on this direct to your email inbox, please email me on Ian.murray.mp@parliament.uk with the subject line ‘Subscribe to Gillis Centre updates’ in the subject line.
