Lothian Buses have announced a new bus service connecting South Gilmerton to the city centre.
The number 28 will run between Gilmerton and Bellevue via Gilmerton Station Road, Lasswade Road, Mayfield Road, Surgeons’ Hall, North Bridge, and Leith Street. The service will begin running from 13th September 2026.
Previously I have written to Lothian Buses highlighting the need for better services along Gilmerton Station Road. I am glad that they have listened to the concerns I raised on behalf of residents.
This part of the city has seen significant housing development in recent years, but up until now bus services have not kept pace with this growth.
More broadly, I have been pushing for better public transport provision for South Edinburgh for years, through my Build Better Places and Save Our Bus Routes campaigns.
