RBS in Bruntsfield to close
I’ve just heard from RBS the extraordinary news that the Bruntsfield branch will close on Tuesday 12 November 2024.
This is deeply, deeply disappointing news and comes despite sustained pressure from local businesses and residents to keep it open.
RBS made a commitment to keep the branch open from its closure date of 26 September. They hailed this as a step which would help preserve access to cash for the local community, but I don’t see how an extra month or so of operations helped them achieve this.
My petition to save the branch received over 1000 signatures, but RBS are determined to close the branch and, despite delaying the initial closure date in September, have now decided to do so.
You can deposit and withdraw cash at your local post office for free. A full list of ATMs across Edinburgh South can be found on my website, here.
I have written again to RBS to reiterate my opposition to the closure. The deferral of the initial date gave the impression that the branch would be open a while longer, not just one extra month.
Thank you again to everyone who was part of my campaign to keep the branch open.
