Ian Murray MP: Liberton High Deputation

I was pleased to join a deputation on behalf of Liberton High School with my colleague Daniel Johnson MSP. We were calling for councillors to prioritise the proposal for a new Liberton High School.

After the tragic events of 2014 the parents and pupils were promised so much and time and time again they have been overlooked.

We asked councillors to ensure that any decisions on the future of the school rebuilding programme were not taken while it was still unclear where the money is coming from. The council have identified over £200m of commitments, but only have £25m in capital to allocate. The shortfall will need to come from the Scottish Government, who have delayed any announcement on a new package of funding until later this year.

Liberton Parent Council and Head Girl, Sarah Hand also made incredibly passionate deputations. The pupils, parents, teachers and the wider community are a constant inspiration.
