Ian Murray MP Working Hard for Edinburgh South
I visited the new Higgs Boson Centre at the Royal Observatory. What a remarkable, world leading institution in the heart of South Edinburgh. The Higgs Centre for Innovation is a business incubation facility designed for start-ups and SMEs (small to medium enterprise) working in the fields of astronomy, data intensive science and particle physics.
Run by the Science and Technology Facilities Council in partnership with the University of Edinburgh, the Higgs Centre for Innovation is a UK Government supported facility supporting commercial growth in key scientific areas.
Based at the Royal Observatory, the site is co-located with the UK Astronomy Technology Centre and the Institute for Astronomy.
I was shown round by Professor Gillian Wright, the Director of the UKATC and her team. I was in awe of the technology that they are developing for space exploration and astronomy. It really is a world class facility.
