Ian Murray MP Working Hard for Edinburgh South
It was a pleasure to visit Empty Kitchens, Full Hearts at their new location in Granton.
They provide up to 700 people a day with a healthy meal package that includes breakfast, lunch, dinners and snacks. All food is donated, turned into day packs then delivered across Edinburgh. By using surplus, they reduce food waste and make sure it goes to those who need it most.
Not only are those in receipt of meals benefited, but the volunteers too benefit from making new friendships with people they may never have met otherwise. During the pandemic volunteering at Empty Kitchens, Full Hearts provided people with much needed human interaction and simply something to do. The sense of togetherness amongst the volunteers is heart-warming and benefits the wider community also.
The service they provide is crucial in making sure people don’t go hungry. They have provided more than 1.4 million free meals to those in need and continue to do so. Their work is incredibly inspiring and selfless
