Last Sunday I visited Midmar Allotments and spent a gloriously sunny•afternoon at their Open Day.

The award-winning allotments looked great and it was clear that a lot of time and energy had gone into making the site look its best.

Their annual event gives allotment holders and cultivators the opportunity to showcase their plots, as well as offering•home-grown produce, baking and preserves for sale.• I sampled some delicious cakes and left with a selection of vegetables grown a matter of metres from where I stood.

Midmar Allotments really is a great credit to the local community, and I was delighted to hear that the event raised over £700 which will allow them to keep offering this great opportunity to the people of South Edinburgh.
