On 17 December, I spoke in a Westminster Hall debate on the Post Office Mediation Scheme, which was established to deal with problems incurred with the Post Office Limited IT Horizon system, used to record all transactions in 11,500 branches nationwide.

Hundreds of postmen and women were accused of losses at local sub-post office because of the faults in the computer system.• Individuals have had a shadow cast over the reputation in their local community and in some cases, they have faced time behind bars.

Those affected and the group of MPs supporting them have recently expressed major concerns about the scheme.• This debate was opportunity to air those views.• Whilst the Post Office have gone to some length to resolve the situation, I understand the frustrations of affected sub postmasters.• For those who have had their lives ruined, it does not matter that they are only part of a small number of subpostmasters that the Horizon system affected.
