Yesterday, thousands of people descended on Parliament for the Climate lobby #ForTheLoveOf to urge MPs and the Government to act on climate change. I met with Justina Stonyte to talk about what we need to do to tackle one of the most pressing issues of our time.•

In the last Parliament, I tried to play my part in tackling climate change with my Private Member’s Bill which would have introduced a decarbonisation target for the UK. This went on to be adopted in the Labour Party’s manifesto.

In this new term, I’ll continue to push for a target. A clear decarbonisation target would help to stimulate green growth in the economy, tackle spiralling energy bills, improve energy security and, of course, reduce our carbon footprint. If we do not decarbonise the power sector, we have no hope of meeting our climate change targets.

Congratulations to the Climate Coalition for organising the successful lobby and to Justina for taking time out to speak with me.
