I always ensure that I have places for local students to do work experience in my busy constituency office.

Last week I had Ewan Lancashire from Boroughmuir High School before his summer break.

He wrote a short blog about his week.

“I have just completed a week’s work experience at Ian Murray MP’s office.

I got a brief overview of the work that is done in his constituency office and the work that Ian does himself.

I researched lobbying issues raised by his constituents so that he can send a response and possibly bring the issue up in parliament.

I also updated the contact information of the politicians at Westminster and organisations.

And finally I visited the Royal Blind School with Ian to pick up art work by the pupils for Ian to take down to Downing Street as a part of the millennium development goals. Some examples of the work are below

I came into the office on Monday not really knowing what happened in a constituency office but now I think I have quite a good idea of what goes in it. I have really enjoyed this week and it has definitely given me good experience in the political field.”

Thanks for the nice card and the biscuits, Ewan. Enjoy your summer and thanks for all your help.
