Ian Murray Working Hard for Edinburgh South
This month I met FAIR’s Chair Les McEwan and Kimberley Swan to have a chat about the service FAIR provides and what provisions are in place to help local people.
FAIR is an advice and information organisation that works with and for people with learning disabilities and their carers. They receive a Service Level Agreement from the City of Edinburgh Council which has been awarded for 2 years (until March 2018). This SLA allows FAIR to apply for external funding which enhances the service in Edinburgh for the people•they work with, including many of my constituents.
The majority of enquires that FAIR receive are about welfare benefits and welfare reform. We spoke about the difficulties many local clients have with changes and medical assessments. We also spoke about our concerns with the introduction of Universal Credit due to the need to have a bank account and managing monthly payments.
You can visit the FAIR website here and see all the wonderful work they do.
