The tragic murder of my colleague, Jo Cox, shook us all to the core.• She was an MP with great passion, conviction and determination to fight for those who needed a voice.• She was only in parliament for just over a year but in that time made a huge impression.•

Politics has lost a real champion and the Labour movement has lost a star.

The vigils and events that took place across the country were of great comfort to everyone who knew her and mourned her passing.• The words from her husband, Brendan, on the evening of her death summed up the sentiments of us all.

I would like to thank all those who organised and attended vigils.• I would particularly like to thank all those constituents who popped into my constituency office or sent me a note to pass on their sympathies.

It has been repeated a lot since we lost Jo but it is worth re-emphasising what she said in her maiden speech: “We have much more in common than that which divides us.” We should all remember that in the cut and thrust of politics and every day life.
