Locals have been shocked at the announcement that the Post Office on Morningside Road is to be franchised• -• an outcome which could lead to closure.

Franchising usually means a relocation of some Post Office services to the counter of a smaller shop- like a WHSmith. The result of previous franchises has shown that customer advice and disabled access have reduced dramatically.

I along with my colleague Daniel Johnson MSP have been campaigning hard against the franchising.• Our petition has already reached well over 2,500 signatures. You can sign the petition and find out more about the closure here.

I have written to the Business Secretary Greg Clark MP and spoken in Parliament to try and arrange a meeting with the minister:

I have also tabled a parliamentary motion which recognises the impact the closure of the Post Office will have on the community- particularly older and disabled people and local businesses who rely on the services so heavily.
