Almost 2 million people signed the petition to•prevent Donald Trump from making a State Visit to the United Kingdom– including over 8,500 from Edinburgh South.•

As the petition reached over 100,000 signatures it was debated in Westminster Hall yesterday. You can watch the debate here:•http://parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/85c7c283-d353-4863-8628-3a012a80b2f5

Meanwhile people all across the UK were taking to the streets to declare their opposition to the new President and the values he upholds.•

I was very disappointed that the•Prime Minister granted a state visit 1 week after President•Trump was elected.•It took previous president’s years to earn this honour whilst the list of previous speakers at Westminster Hall includes Nelson Mandela, Pope Benedict XVI and Barack Obama. Mr Trump is frankly not fit to share the honour with such distinguished people.

Thankfully, because of Speaker Bercow’s intervention, Mr Trump will no longer be addressing parliament. To do so would have required the Speaker’s consent which he made abundantly clear he was unwilling to give.•After the Speakers brave decision there were many who suggested a vote of no confidence would be triggered and John Bercow could be removed. Thankfully this•motion•has only 5 MPs backing it and looks to be going nowhere fast.

The Government have•decided to reject•the petition and are pressing on with the visit,•however it is being•rumoured•that they are trying•to move the visit•somewhere outside London for fear of mass protests. I only hope he does not come to Edinburgh!
