Following the announcement that Environment Secretary Michael Gove will ban the use of neonicotinoids I updated constituents from Parliament. This update was sent on 9th November 2017:

You may have heard that today, Environment Secretary Michael Gove has announced that the UK Government will now support a full EU wide ban on the use of neonicotinoids.•

You can read Michael Gove’s full article in the Guardian•here.

This is fantastic news and a testament to the tens of thousands of people up and down the country, like you, who have taken the time to contact Members of Parliament and pressure the Government.•

As you already know,•the•scientific evidence has been mounting, that neonicotinoids are harmful to bee populations and the EU Commission has been pushing for a full ban since 2013.•I am very pleased the UK Government appear to have caught up with many countries across the EU in recognising the problem.•

It is expected that with the UKs support for these measures that the current impasse on the European Commission will be overcome and we will have EU wide ban. Furthermore, I am pleased that Michael Gove also made a commitment to continue this policy after the UK has left the EU (unless the evidence changes).

I will continue to keep you updated on this important issue and will of course continue to pressure the Government not to reverse this decision at a later date.•
