Commenting on the terms for a Brexit transition period, Scottish Labour for the Single Market co-chair Ian Murray MP said:

“There is still no clarity from the Tory Government about what Britain ultimately wants from the negotiations. The Government has agreed to a fixed transition period of just 21 months, which simply extends the Brexit cliff-edge until January 2021.

“That’s not enough time to negotiate the future relationship, and it’s one reason why everyone has the right to change their minds on this.

“But if we are to leave the EU, the least-worst option which would allow us to protect jobs and avoid a hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland is for the UK to remain in the Single Market and the Customs Union.”
