Tomorrow marks one year to go until the UK is scheduled to leave the EU, at 11pm on March 29, 2019.

Please find below a statement from the Scottish Labour for the Single Market campaign.

In a joint statement, Scottish Labour for the Single Market co-chairs Kezia Dugdale MSP, Ian Murray MP and Catherine Stihler MEP said:

“If we leave the EU, the catastrophic impact on jobs and the UK’s economy will be irreversible.
“Make no mistake: livelihoods and the future integrity of the United Kingdom are at stake.
“The least-worst option for our economy, to protect jobs and workers’ rights and to avoid a hard border in Northern Ireland, is permanent UK membership of the European Single Market and the Customs Union.

“But it’s clear that the Tory government wants to park all the difficult decisions until after we leave. We firmly believe voters have a right to see the details of the post-EU deal.
“The referendum was not the end of the process and the only body that can stop a hard Brexit is the UK Parliament.

“The Labour Party must rise to the occasion. It’s now or never. The future won’t be kind to those who stand by and allow the Tories to inflict economic ruin on our country.”
